Hi There,

I just got back from  a honeymoon from hell.

This is for any of you who plan on going on a Honeymoon to Saint Lucia at a Sandals Resort. You may think twice...

Thanks,

I don't know where to start. We got food posioning from the resort food (The resort nurse confirmed this). We saw rats on two occasions near the restaurant (The Arizona). There was an animal in the walls of our room (We could hear it running around and chewing and scratching all night behind our heads..I'm sure it was a rodent of some sort)! The service was horrible. The fine dining restaurant (La Toc) was a joke. The whole place smelled of sewage (especially the pool bars). There is no beach! The pools were dirty (bandaids and sugar packets and dirt floating in it) as were the rooms (loads of pubic hair in the tub upon arrival as well as dust bunnies everwhere). The buffet (The Pavillion) was constantly cold, and very poor food quality as well as little variety. The bartenders rolled their eyes when you asked for an ice blended drink. They were also often out of bananas and common alcohol. We stayed there 7 nights and only was able to get a pool towel once! The transportation to the resort from the airport is small and cramped with horrible roads.
My husband and I have worked many years in hospitality and we know what it's like, so we were patient however it was horrible beyond belief. We have five pages of legitimate complaints. We're really not bad travellers, before this trip we have never complained and we have traveled to many places throughout the world and Carribean and have never had a bad time until Sandals St Lucia. This resort is WAY over priced and the Regency was by far one of our most expensive trips and hands down THE WORST!
The Regency is the nicest property compared to The Grande and the Halcyon. The Halcyon looks like a YMCA with the painted concrete block walls (It is the oldest Sandals resort in Saint Lucia and needs work). It lobby is horrible. The Regency is the nicest of three St Lucia Sandals properties however that's not saying a lot! We were so unhappy with this all inclusive that we are demanding compensation from our travel agent.
We've been to much nicer resorts (for example in Cuba) for less than half the price we paid for St Lucia and for TWO weeks.
Every day my husband and I would say "Ok we're going to turn a new leaf today and enjoy this" ...but no sooner did we have the words out of our mouth than something would happen. It got to the point that all we could do was laugh. We met a lot of couples who had the same concerns and complaints as us however many just complained to one another. We decided to confront management and try to over come the bad situations and make the best of the trip. We met with the management there and I honestly must say that the Guest service gentleman there was awesome, very good at his job. However he took us in to see the Assistant Manager and she was dismissive and more interested in her ringing phone than our concerns.
***For any of you planning to go now, they are doing major renovations to the Regency property and some travel agents may not be aware of this (as was ours). -Nov 2005. There is a lot of noise starting early in the morning (7:30am) The people at the resort for the most part were nice but the ones that weren't really were not nice at all. Most of the bartenders are rude in our experience there. The food is horrible. Cuba always gets a bad rap however in our experience the food in Cuba was 10 times better than the food offered at any of the Sandals St. Lucia resorts. We ate everwhere and the only restaurant that is good is Armandos (Italian restaurant at the Regency) They have excellent Lasagna if you go. **there is no A/C at "The Pier" and a dress code for men to wear pants, shoes and LONG sleeve shirts (as well as La Toc)...La Toc does have A/C though. I can understand a dress code but long sleeve shirts and no A/C at "The Pier"...that's crazy. "Armandos" has the best staff in the whole Resort.
"The Bayside buffet" at the Grande is the worst buffet I have ever laid my eyes on.
You may have a different experience at The Regency...however all I can say is that my husband and I find it way overpriced and many people we encountered had the same complaints. It is honestly about a '3 and a Half Star' resort. The Halcyon is  about a "2 and a half - three".
Just beware before booking, check around, that's all I can say. Weigh your options before you choose one of the three Sandals Resorts in Saint Lucia. Check as many travel advisors as possible before making up your mind. On a scale from 1 to 10...(10 being the highest / best rating)...I would give our vacation a 1. It was a horrible honeymoon!
